RISE Mzansi revisited Marlboro Alexandra today, engaging with residents forcibly evicted from long-abandoned container flats. Despite ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa's 2019 promise to build one million homes, this commitment remains unfulfilled, leaving the community disillusioned. The government's failure has led to violent evictions, stripping residents of their dignity. Despite pleas, the City of Johannesburg has only responded with threats and armed guards protecting vacant units.

RISE Mzansi urgently calls on MMC of Housing Anthea Leitch and Gauteng MEC of Human Settlements Lebogang Maile to present an alternative reallocation plan. Over 200 destitute individuals, including families with infants and seniors, are left without shelter. We condemn the City of Johannesburg and the ANC-led Gauteng Provincial government's inaction and urge swift resolution within seven days. South Africans can elect new leaders on May 29th for change.
